Breaking the Spirit of Competition
Competition defined:
the person or people with whom one is competing, especially in a commercial or sporting arena; the opposition.
We can’t talk about competition without the root of it, COMPARISON!
What does the Bible tell us about comparing?
2 Corinthians 10:12 (KJV)
12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
When we compare ourselves to others we take away the authenticity that God has given us as individuals. You see, God created you as a unique individual all your own,none of our fingerprints are the same, every hair on our head is numbered that’s how unique and different God has made us.
Why do we compete and compare?
Because we have not excepted our Sonship in Christ. This causes us to be intimidated by the value in others, more than our own.
Galatians 2:20 gives us definition of who we are once we accept Christ in our lives.
When We begin to see ourselves as He sees us we walk by His definition and not by another mans.
The affects of competition and comparison, is a Thief. It causes division in the body of Christ. Disharmony in families and friends, instead of unity. It can separate the closest of relationships. We must combat this by getting delivered from rejection, abandonment, negative self imagery and the affects thereof.
How do we break this cycle???
By allowing God to give us identity and accepting it.
Come out of agreement with all the former things that defined you.
Spending time in God’s presence forming relationship with Him to continue becoming who God calls you.
Saturate your mind with God’s word to transform your life.
Guard your heart and your environment.
Doing such things will allow us to focus on our purpose and not ourselves. We will begin to realize our brothers and sisters are not our opposition to work against, but they are our family to co-labor with, to build the Kingdom.
So be as authentic as God designed you to be. You were not meant to be a duplication of anyone else. You see you are such an inspiration to someone, but only as you, not an imitation of someone else. Remember you are a designers original. He is the only one that can define His creation. Don't let others define you, because then you must live by their definition. No one touches others in your way, but you. You have so much value and worth. Shine on!
